University of Minnesota - Program Associate

The University of Minnesota School of Journalism & Mass Communication has an immediate opening for a key staff person to provide administrative and programmatic support as a Program Associate for the SJMC Professional Research and Outreach Center. The SJMC Center encompasses the professional development and outreach arm of the School as well as research activities that inform the work of media professionals, and promotes interaction between media professionals and the academy. Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant event planning and implementation, public relations, or promotional experienceor OR a combination of education and relevant administrative experience to total five years.
Previous writing skills to include editing and proofing. Experience working with the web and electronic communications. Able to work occasional early mornings, evenings or weekends. Some light lifting and moving of equipment used for events is required. Prior work coordinating event activities.

Writing samples will be requested of candidates invited for interviews.

Desired:
BA/BS & three years of related experience. Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail. Proven ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, handle multiple assignments, and work independently. Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication ability to include customer service, professionalism, and problem-solving. Event experience at the University of Minnesota or other higher education institution. Experience working with or within media organizations. Advanced skill at using MS Office software suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). Experience with desktop publishing and graphic software, particularly InDesign and Photoshop. Experience with web publishing software, especially Dreamweaver. Supervisory experience.
Accounting/budget management experience. Experience supporting administrators and coordinators in similar work environment.
