University of Minnesota - Student Graphic Design Intern

Minimum/Essential Qualifications:
Experience and advanced creative skills with independent design and production of print and electronic marketing materials with InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator, and other relevant programs. Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:
Seeking a BA/BS in Graphic Design or related field; or a combination of relevant education and graphic design experience to total 2 years. Must have excellent teamwork and communication skills; be able to succeed in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines; be capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously; and be highly detail oriented and organized. Must have an excellent command of grammar and be aware of editorial content used for design.

Position reports to the Director of Marketing and Publicity, and takes direction from the full time Graphic Designer.

Overview: The Student Graphic Design Intern is responsible for assisting Northrop's Graphic Designer, and for supporting the marketing of Northrop (department of Concerts and Lectures) presented and rental events. Projects may include both print and web design, and maintain departmental and U of M branding standards. This position assists with other general marketing and publicity projects and/or special events as needed. The Student Graphic Design Intern performs other duties as assigned. The Student Graphic Design Intern will stay informed on current trends in design, arts marketing, and communications, while creating original designs of their own work. She/he will have excellent communication skills, be able to organize and manage multiple projects with an acute eye for details, and exhibit outstanding customer service focused on elevating the image of Northrop and its unique position as a leader in the Twin Cities market. The Graphic Design student intern will have the ability to work well independently, with others in the department and with our clients, University and community partners, and the artists and agents we present.

Duties Performed:
25% Advertisements and Signage
25% Web Graphics and E-Marketing
25% Marketing Materials (Printed)
25% Internal Projects (Branding)

Examples of projects for both print and web could include ads, ticket office documents, web graphics and content, dance and music event programs, posters, displays, forms, fliers, badges, mailings, etc. This position may also assist with researching and securing images for promotion. Works with the entire Marketing and Publicity team to concept and create strategies for marketing and communications. The Student Graphic Design Intern will keep organized files for all materials produced, as well as the files of all Northrop photography, logos, and branding standards. This position will assist the Northrop team with general office duties as needed and other duties as assigned.
