ORGANIZATION SUMMARY: The Colon Cancer Coalition oversees the continued success of over 30 Get Your Rear in Gear 5K events nationally, promoting awareness and raising funds to fight colon cancer. The events are designed to unite people, cities and states throughout the USA; to provide support and hope for those who have had their lives affected by our nation’s second leading cause of cancer deaths, and to encourage individuals of all ages to get screened.
JOB TITLE: Intern – Event Marketing & Communications
LOCATION: Twin Cities Metro
TYPE: Intern / 15 hours per week, more than one position may be available
DEADLINE: Open until filled.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Research and write articles for website and external communication mediums
2. Compose press releases for upcoming events and grant recipients
3. Research and confirm press contacts in event markets throughout the country
4. Assist in event planning and execution, including occasional offline registration entry, and logistical support
5. Other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, strong organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work independently, a willingness to accept a variety of tasks, and a positive attitude. Journalism, marketing, public relations or communications coursework preferred and/or a career interest in non-profit organizations.
While the organization has an office space at 494 and 34th Street, most of the staff works remotely. Weekly office hours will be arranged. Candidate must be a self-starter with high attention to detail. Candidate must have transportation and access to a personal computer.
Academic credit may be arranged through individual college/advisor
