Minntech Corporation - Social Media Internship

Company Overview:

Minntech Corporation is a leader in the development, manufacturing, and marketing of medical devices, sterilants, and water filtration products. Minntech is expanding into new businesses based on its internally developed core technologies in device reprocessing, chemical sterilants, dialysis solutions and hollow fiber membrane devices.

Job Overview:
Social media is fast growing in scope and importance in the healthcare market. Minntech’s major competitors have launched social media campaigns to reach their audiences. Minntech lags behind these competitors in building a social media communication platform. There is a need to review market trends and competitive activities to understand how Minntech can enter and be effective in the social media space.
Minntech has four distinct business units, each serving specific segments of the healthcare market.
A coordinated effort in planning is necessary to enable an effective, smooth launch of the Minntech social media platform. Additionally, this social media plan should include feasibility studies in the consumer space, as Minntech has begun participating via the SportSenseTM Protective Coating product.
Key objectives
Develop a social media plan for Minntech:
• Evaluate if and how social media is most effective as an communication tool for Minntech
• Define social media goals for Minntech and devise development plans in how to meet them
• Identify key social media platforms that will reach respective target markets
• Develop short and long term social media execution plans


Project tasks (assume 8-week program)

Phase 1 (2 weeks):
  • Learn the products and markets for the 4 business units at Minntech.
  • Analyze key competitors’ social media strategy and its presence in the healthcare markets (e.g. Olympus, Steris, ASP/J&J).
  • Evaluate if and how social media is a relevant tool for each business unit.
Phase 2 (3 weeks):
  • Analyze various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, blogs, etc.) in its advantages and limitations.
  • Conduct customer interviews to validate social media development concepts and key messaging.
Phase 3 (3 weeks):
  • Develop an implementation plan for Minntech with clear objectives and measureable goals.
  • At the end of the internship, meet with senior management and provide recommendations on a social media plan for Minntech.
