Kohnstamm Communications - Senior Account Executive

The Senior Account Executive (SAE) is responsible for managing communications projects across several key clients and generating creative and transformational outcomes.   Duties include development, implementation, and coordination of consumer and/or business public relations and social media programs in support of the clients positioning and communications objectives.  The goal is to fuel client marketing objectives and establish and maintain favorable image with investors, potential customers, employees and the public.  The SAE serves as a key contact to client stakeholders and works closely with the Kohnstamm management team to strategize, facilitate, brainstorm, and manage accounts to drive client results.


The Senior Account Executive must understand how businesses work and possess solid knowledge in current and future business policies, practices, trends, and information affecting his/her client disciplines.   A dedication to meeting client expectations, ability to handle ambiguity, and a focus on achieving results are key attributes for success. 

Ideal candidates should have 5-7 years of PR experience, paired with superior communications skills, social media savvy and media relations expertise, including a proven track record in national and regional editorial placements. The SAE will act as a collaborative and consultative client partner and must possess advanced communication skills (written, verbal, presentation), a self-directed nature, and a natural ability to work as part of a cohesive team.  As a skilled time manager, the SAE will concentrate efforts on the most important priorities to ensure a seamless communications plan and process for moving client work forward on time and within budget.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Strategic Direction

  • Identifies client prospects, management of client contracts and plans, reporting and follow up.
  • Researches and prioritizes news and industry trends and offers suggestions about how to incorporate recent news into successful media pitches and projects.
  • Develops annual client plans, strategies and goals, collaborating with teams to execute.
  • Analyzes multiple pathways and generates ideas, solutions and hands-on results when encountering dilemmas.
  • Asks effective and informative questions when assessing opportunities and challenges.
  • Pinpoints underlying hurdles behind goal-reaching dilemmas and recommends solutions.
Account Management

  • Drives day-to-day management of assigned client accounts including planning, execution and project management.
  • Serves as a key client contact, manages day-to-day client interactions, while contributing communication insights to business plans, setting and selling communications strategies and results.
  • Manages and monitors client budgets and the agency’s ability to deliver results and meet client expectations within budget parameters.
  • Assists management team with prioritization, program development, effective execution, partnership relationship management, integration and collaboration, workload management, and assures achievement of objectives.
  • Prepares timely and accurate tracking. Updates key results reports including media placement reports, ad equivalency charts, share of voice monitoring, social media analysis and media clipping. 
  • Achieves daily and weekly client goals as outlined by Account Manager. Completes projects on deadline. 
  • Regularly enters accurate time reporting; maintains billability thresholds.
 Public Relations/Social Media

  • Manages editor/reporter relationships and execute media relations tasks including media list development, story pitching, fact checking, reporter targeting, etc.
  • Develops new media contacts and cultivates ongoing rapport with key media.
  • Collaborates with Kohnstamm management and account team to ensure proper timing of media relations activities and coordination of weighted priorities (i.e. online vs. print) within campaigns.  Maintains constant awareness of campaign roadmaps and key messages.
  • Leads communications to protect client’s reputation by anticipating and neutralizing potentially damaging publicity, runs crisis management activities and communications.
  • Writes background materials, organize briefing bookings, and develop and deliver presentations. Drive media events, press conferences/briefings, and media tours.
  • Creates press releases, bylined articles, client correspondences and reports.
  • Ability to lead and execute social media and web/blog programs on client’s behalf; including content creation for blogs, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube; social media analysis, key opinion leader outreach, SEO. Stay on topic of social trends, quickly implementing new findings into daily editorial efforts.
  • Serves as an ambassador of the client’s business and maintains knowledge of the competitive environment.
  • Actively drives to increase the account team’s knowledge base; elevates the team’s stature and effectiveness as media/PR consultants/strategic partners (vs. as a vendor); increases return on investment for communication activities; and enhances the delivery and effectiveness of key brand messages for all clients.
  • Participates in creative thinking, program innovation and results-based brainstorming with account team to develop compelling business and consumer programs and results.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Journalism, Communications, marketing, speech or related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible public relations experience with solid agency experience in both consumer and business media highly preferred.
  • PR and industry knowledge of sustainability, CPG, branding, organic and natural foods, healthcare PR and B2B highly desired.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in quickly drafting and editing communications materials including news releases, fact sheets, talking points, executive briefings, etc.
  • Experience managing media relationships, story placement, and coordination of media distribution.
  • Documented experience building effective new media campaigns to achieve desired financial and business results.
  • Proficiency in account time and information management (action memo’s, reports, proposals, approvals), budget creation and analysis.
  • Understanding of data analysis terms and methods, analysis presentation, difference between in-person, focus group, and survey methods.
  • Business acumen knowledge including basic business models, able to read balance sheet/annual report and organizational communications development and implementation.
  • Ability to provide counsel to business and executive leadership.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to public relations issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships, gaining credibility, and partner with leaders and peers.
