Required Qualifications:
High school degree or equivalent. Current undergraduate student
pursuing a degree in English, communications, journalism or marketing.
Strong writing, time management and interpersonal skills are a must.
Experience in crafting news releases and working with the media is
desired.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in expanding their basic
understanding of the web and a familiarity with common social media
platforms including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Looking for a trustworthy self-starter who is excited to engage in a
variety of communication. Basic understanding of HTML and CSS and
experience with Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver is desired.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience making updates to websites.
- Experience with video and/or audio recording and editing
The Media Relations & New Media Intern will assist
in writing news releases and monitoring media coverage. The intern will
write web copy, conduct interviews and assist in developing editorial
content.
Duties/Responsibilities:
The intern will also provide support on a range of new media and web
development projects. They will write scripts and conduct podcast
interviews.
The intern will also support the department by updating the Academic Health Center and Medical School websites.
Through this internship, the Media Relations & New Media Intern
will gain hands-on experience and create a number of solid portfolio
materials for a future career in public relations.

--Write news releases, media advisories and promotional material
--Respond to media requests as directed by the Public Relations Manager
--Enter news releases into Lyris server
--Upload news releases to AHC website
--Create & update AHC media lists

30% Media Monitoring &Communications Support
--Construct the Academic Health Center Daily media update
--Keep Cision account up-to-date and create Cision feeds for the AHC website
--Generate coverage reports for AHC media coverage
30% New Media & Web Support
--Utilize new media skills to collaborate on video, audio and editorial projects
--Assist in management of the AHC social media presence; post updates on the AHC social media accounts
--Assist in the recording of AHC audio and video productions
--Edit and upload images for the AHC website
--Capitalize on SEO web opportunities
--Assist with gathering analytics data and the reporting of web usage
--Conduct web updating under the guidance of the Web Manager
--Improve understanding of HTML, CSS, PHP and content management systems
