University of Minnesota - Public Relations Coordinator

- Bachelors Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Art or related field; OR 4 years combined equivalent education and experience.
- Experience writing/pitching news stories for public consumption/ marketing
- Experience researching, synthesizing, and summarizing complex, scientific or similar, information
- Experience with digital and social media efforts
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of how to leverage social media in support strategic public relations
- Experience or demonstrated ability to pitch stories and work with local, regional and national media outlets
- Experience working under pressure and meeting deadlines

Selection Criteria/Preferred Qualifications:
-2-4 years of prior work experience in public relations, media relations or communications in either an agency or corporate setting
-Interest in public policy and government affairs.
-Experience developing strategic communications plans to support organizational objectives.
-Experience generating media support for marketing and promotional activities.
-Background in health care communications
-Demonstrated/documented advanced writing, speaking and communication skills
-Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
-Proven ability to support strategic public relations and media efforts through digital and social media vehicles
-Comfort and ability in pitching and working with local, regional and national media with demonstrated results
-Demonstrated/documented project management, coordination & organization skills
-Demonstrated ability to research, synthesize and summarize complex scientific information. 

-In association with the AHC & University public relations, public affairs and government relations teams, the PR Coordinator will help tell the story of health sciences programs from a public policy, higher education, financial and infrastructure framework. The PR Coordinator will coordinate news stories that advance public awareness of new health sciences programs, centers, institutes and research that impact public policy at a regional and national level.
-The PR Coordinator will proactively pitch stories and manage incoming media requests to ensure we are maximizing opportunities and achieving strategic goals.
-Write web and blog content for the AHC website and the University's Health Talk Blog that advances public awareness of the health sciences' position or impact on public policy issues.
-Coordinate logistics of media interviews.
-Develop, write and edit a variety of media materials including press releases, media advisories, media kits, story outlines, story pitches and more.
-Foster and maintain quality relationships with local, regional and national media within the context of the PR Coordinator's focus area.
-Monitor, track, measure and report effectiveness of media placements, including creating media coverage reports and quarterly reports for leadership.
-Identify opportunities for the AHC to insert ourselves in the online and offline buzz on health science related topics in key research corridor areas.
-Create content for the AHC's Facebook and Twitter accounts.
-Aggregate content from social media outlets across the AHC and disperse through AHC's dedicated social media accounts
