Full-time position in the Chief Clerk’s Office of the Minnesota House of Representatives. Begin immediately.
Primary responsibilities include writing short descriptions and assigning topics for searchable web-based bill status system of all House bills. Also writing longer section-by-section descriptions of engrossed House bills. Responsible for creating bill information records for bills introduced in the House; and for editing the permanent topical index of bills. Will be required to assist in the daily operation of the Index office by responding to member, staff, and public requests for information relating to bill status, legislative documents, and various House records. Additional duties include delivery of original documents in Capitol complex and willingness to assist as needed within the Chief Clerk's Office.
Writing experience must include the ability to read a bill draft and provide a concise short title description. Good administrative, proofing and organizational skills are required. Accuracy and attention to detail are very important. Applicants must have strong communication skills and work well with people. Knowledge of legislative process and ability to communicate that process to others is necessary. Microsoft Word and PC experience required.
Long and irregular hours expected during the legislative session.
Entry level salary: $1,665.08 semi-monthly, commensurate with experience.
