United Way - Marketing Communications Specialist

This position will require a pro-active, collaborative, team player, who is able to work and communicate with multiple stakeholders simultaneously.  This position requires an energetic, flexible, deadline driven individual with excellent attention to details and the ability to execute and follow-up on specific tasks. Successful candidates will demonstrate project management, communications, and marketing events planning success.

Description of Duties

  • Provide marketing and communications support to affinity group staff and volunteers to include:
    • Coordinate and execute an integrated plan of events, communications and marketing efforts for United Way’s affinity groups.
      • Execute year-round engagement and ongoing communications efforts – multiple and simultaneous events, newsletters, print and web-based communications, website updates, social media, etc.
      • Develop stewardship tools – thank you’ s, welcome emails, etc.
      • Support the development of affinity group marketing tools – website, brochures, enrollment cards, event materials, etc.
  • Create the tools needed to support company campaign strategies – sample emails, PPTs, company event invites, etc.
  • Provide marketing and communications support to affinity group staff and volunteers
  • Database updates and report pulling


  • 3 + years of experience in volunteer management, marketing and events
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and excellent follow-through
  • Excellent communications skills—both written and verbal
  • Excellent  event planning and execution skills
  • Customer service skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft technology and Knowledge of online sharing tools including blogs and user communities
  • Fundraising and non-profit experience a plus.
