American Academy of Neurology - Intern, Media and Public Relations

Basic Purpose

To support AAN media and public relations activities.

Primary Duties

  • Assists in handling of national and international media inquiries
  • Maintains and updates the internal tracking system for media inquiries
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of media pitch lists
  • Organizes and monitors print, video, online and social media clips on weekly basis
  • Employs social media tactics and monitors social media
  • Writes copy for press materials and websites as requested
  • Assisting in the compilation of media coverage reports
  • Assists in dissemination of patient information, tools and resources to patient groups
  • MUST BE A CURRENT FULL-TIME STUDENT

Education

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience

0-2 years of related professional experience

Knowledge

  • Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong interest in healthcare public relations
  • Ability to excel and stay organized in a fast-paced environment with daily deadlines
  • Understanding of A/P style
  • Understanding of media clipping services, such as Cision, Burrelles Luce, and/or Vocus a plus

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No supervisory responsibility

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Occasionally using stairs
