Minnesota State Senate - Digital Internship


Our Digital Internship is an exciting opportunity for a current college student or recent graduate with strong graphic design skills and exceptional understanding of new media to gain practical experience in public relations, politics, and new media. The internship will expose students to the legislative process and to the internal workings of the Senate DFL Media Office.

The experience will give the intern a unique opportunity to gain an understanding of the media trends of the state government and the issues it faces in meeting the needs of a diverse audience. The intern will have the opportunity to build on their digital portfolio with media that will be viewed by thousands of people each day. The intern will gain invaluable experience in an office setting, working with the office’s New Media Specialist and with the members of Senator’s staff.
The position will be offered from January 2014 to the end of April 2014. No stipend is provided, but the internship is available for school credit if approved by the student’s school.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design graphics and social media content to help Senators communicate with their constituents online
  • Take photographs at hearings and rallies
  • Help manage the Senate DFL Caucus’ and Members’ web sites
  • Gather digital news clippings from around the state
