Land O 'Lakes, Inc - Communications Specialist

The Corporate division encompasses the core operational support for all Land O’Lakes businesses. It includes Business Development Services, Corporate Strategy, Corporate Communications, Land O’Lakes Foundation and Community Relations, Finance, Law, Human Resources, Information Technology and Government Relations.

Position Purpose:

Work closely with internal communications leader to deliver on an internal communication strategy that supports the Land O'Lakes goals of being a “great place to work” as measured by employee engagement, business alignment and agility.

Position Summary:

The internal communications Senior Specialist is responsible for supporting the development and execution of the enterprise internal communications strategy to improve employee connection, alignment, and accountability.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Execute on the integrated internal communication plan which aligns with the narrative priorities across all internal audiences, and complements the corporate communication strategies for external and member audiences. Work closely with senior manager, internal communications; senior manager, business communications; and manager, HR communications; to drive prioritization and planning of internal communications that align to the corporate strategy and messages.
  • Develop integration strategy and advise on execution across multiple internal channels to optimize value for all audiences.
  • Partner with external communications to deliver on employee advocacy strategy and capitalize on opportunities to amplify corporate reputation among employees.

    Content Development & Delivery
  • Lead the development of internal content strategy and deliver timely, relevant and localized content across all internal platforms.
  • Cultivate relationships across internal teams to understand and articulate our key messages to employees and stakeholders across the business.
  • Partner with brand designer to deliver visually compelling content for key campaigns and stories across multiple digital and print channels
  • Provide project leadership for key messaging opportunities such as brand anthem videos, employee town halls, college recruiting and others.
  • Oversee production of digital sign content and work to continuously improve both content and distribution based on various employee audience needs.
  • Schedule, write, edit and distribute internal communications that are mapped to the rhythm of the business and corporate milestones.
  • Maximize existing and identify new vehicles and technologies to advance connection and communication with our employees.
  • Coordinate technical, legal and stakeholder reviews to ensure accuracy and effectiveness of materials.
Experience-Education (Required):

Bachelor’s degree required; Masters in communication or business preferred.

Minimum of 5-7 years of directly-related experience in corporate communications or communications consulting with strong, proven experience in creating engaging content that aligns to business strategy.

  • Experience building partnerships with multiple, internal stakeholders and serving as a communications advisor.
  • Strong business acumen and a good understanding of business strategy.
  • Ability to develop and implement communication strategies in complex organizations and to develop internal communication solutions that contribute to improving business performance.
  • Thorough understanding of communications planning and the ability to develop multi-channel communication solutions targeted to different audience segments and needs.
  • Sound understanding for what is feasible or appropriate for the culture of Land O’Lakes in order to recommend appropriate initiatives.
  • Excellent networking and relationship building skills and the ability to interact with confidence with diverse work styles, levels and functions.
  • Ability to be involved with highly-sensitive information, using discretion and integrity.
  • Outstanding verbal, written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex issues and formulate recommendations to a wide variety of audiences are essential.
  • Strong conceptual thinker with ability to think beyond the boundaries of his/her immediate responsibilities, function and business to those of the entire organization
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to deliver on multiple priorities.
  • Resilient, with the ability to work to deadlines and maintain high levels of professionalism under pressure.
  • Ability to travel for business (about 25 percent of the time)
