Sleep Number - Director PR & Corporate Communications

Sleep Number is seeking a highly effective Director of PR and Corporate Communications to develop and direct public relations and corporate communications strategies. Collaborate with CEO and other company leaders to define and execute a strategy that will elevate and enhance Sleep Number’s profile and reputation. This individual will develop and lead a communication protocol and outreach strategy that will be critical enablers of organizational success. Responsibilities:
Public Relations
Establish and direct public relations strategy – from local to national outlets and traditional and possibly social channels
Direct the management of external public relations agencies to support business initiatives
Responsible for external brand management when working with the various news media and other key stakeholders, such as industry organizations, as necessary
Effectively manage PR staff and Agency Partners to quickly implement strategy and develop staff to enhance and sustain top performance; grow team members into positions of increasing responsibility
Provide creative direction for PR events, including press, industry, and financial analyst conferences, media roundtables, and executive events
Implement work flow processes between internal clients and corporate communications that ensure efficient, timely, and high quality dissemination of PR/AR communications

Corporate Communications
Lead corporate communications direction for the company
Consistently develop and implement innovative strategies to position company as the sleep innovation leader; gain share of voice for Sleep Number brand
Drive CEO and executive communications, including messaging and public speaking platforms
Develop crisis communications strategy; serve in command and control role during crises
Serve as primary corporate communications spokesperson
Drive the development of a 360ยบ communications plan; assist company in implementing that plan
Work closely with CEO/Investor Relations on earnings releases
Ensure consistency of message delivery internally and externally
Provide guidance to executives with regard to story lines and key strategies with constituents; media training where necessary
Serve as strategic counsel for business team members on the best way to communicate significant corporate news
Leverage established working relationships with top-tier press and industry analysts
Increase positive coverage with relevant business and trade press and industry analysts
Identify and measure to assess (1) effectiveness of communications, and (2) whether services are meeting the needs of internal clients
Lead employee communication, employer brand social, and corporate special event functions

10+ years practical experience in progressive organizations leading communication, PR and Media relations
BS/BA in Communications, Journalism, Business, Economics, Public Relations or equivalent; MS/MBA preferred.

Able to be flexible and to handle multiple projects in an organized, timely manner
Able to remain calm under pressure
Normal physical exertion within an office environment
Some travel required
