Uptown Association - Events and Programming Paid Internship

OVERVIEW:  The Uptown Association is a non-profit member based organization serving the Uptown Minneapolis area since 1975 with offices located near the intersection of Hennepin Avenue and West Lake Street. The mission of the organization is to improve the economic vitality and sustainability of Uptown through collaboration and partnerships.  The Association is also the producer of the Uptown Art Fair, a nationally renowned fine art show that is held annually the first weekend of August and celebrating its 52nd anniversary in 2015.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Uptown Association Internship Program provides an excellent opportunity for students to receive hands-on experience at one of the most active business associations in the City of Minneapolis, as well as the producer of the nationally acclaimed Uptown Art Fair.  The Association is looking for several interns starting in May of 2015 who are interested in enhancing their education experience in the areas of event planning and project management, communications, public relations, marketing, and journalism.  Hours are FULL-TIME (30-40 hours per week) with the schedule being determined by the intern. Candidates must be available to work through August 28, 2015.  There are no weekend hours except for the Uptown Art Fair (August 7-9).

The position has a stipend payment based on performance.  Payment is paid at the end of the internship. 

Possible responsibilities include planning events and programs, working with stakeholders in the community, creating and writing marketing pieces, database management, research, VIP relations, and staff support. 

Association Interns play integral roles in coordinating the Uptown Art Fair- one of the top 10 fine art festival in the US and second most attended event in MN.  They will not only see a large event from the planning stages to completion, but gain experience in project management and maintaining budgets.   

Ideal candidates are creative self-starters needing little supervision.  Must be detail-oriented, have excellent communication skills and the ability to multi-task.  Team players, who are adaptable and independent problem solvers will succeed in this position.  

Strong writing skills are a must.  Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite a plus.
