Minnesota State Lottery - Digital Marketing Manager

Job Summary

The Minnesota Lottery is seeking a Digital Marketing Manager to help show Minnesotans how fun it is to play the Lottery. You will lead our digital marketing department and supervise two employees while creating and leading the strategy that grows and strengthens our online presence. You will own all aspects of our website and blog, mobile app, social media, paid digital media, and customer relationship management (CRM) strategies.

You are a seasoned digital marketer who loves the Internet, has a keen eye for great content, and knows how to leads customers from awareness to purchase and loyalty using digital channels. You are passionate about what you do and are not afraid to sell your ideas those inside the organization. You innately keep up on all of the latest digital trends and are probably a local thought leader in this ever-changing environment of digital marketing technology and strategy. You have experience leading people toward common goals and have worked on website redesign and mobile app development projects. You are self-starter and a great problem solver who pays close attention to detail. You have a great can-do attitude and want to have fun when you come to work!

Responsibilities and Deliverables
  • Own the digital marketing roadmap, setting the strategy for all of the Lottery’s current and future digital properties, including website, blog, email, social media, app, paid media, and customer database, building on existing strategy while bringing new ideas to the table.
  • Manage digital media budget and provide reports on spend and ROI.
  • Set the vision for the organization’s digital content strategy, making sure our story is consistent across all channels and is constantly working to convert new players while maintaining our current base of players. Own the messaging plan and its execution.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to define and outline the Lottery’s voice and tone. Get buy-in from key stakeholders to implement new style into messaging.
  • Act as the organization’s digital brand manager, constantly driving to maintain a professional, polished, and consistent look in everything we publish to digital channels.
  • Plan yearly calendar of social media sweepstakes and surprise and delight opportunities to engage our current players and convert new ones.
  • Collaborate with Director of Marketing and Sales and Marketing Manager on all advertising and branding campaigns, working as part of the core marketing team that approves concepts and provides direction to a team of creatives at our advertising agency.
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with advertising agency on digital and social media efforts, including monthly content production, paid digital media, and influencer relations.
  • Find new opportunities to create engaging digital extensions and provide on-site social media support at large sponsored events, including the Minnesota State Fair, WE Fest, Rock the Garden, Basilica Block Party, and others.
  • Find new, innovative ways to use digital video as an opportunity to tell our stories about winners, beneficiaries, new product launches, and more.
  • Supervise the Webmaster and Digital Marketing Specialist, providing clear direction and motiving them to grow and produce top-quality work.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to identify and execute on real-time content needs.
  • Oversee all digital analytics tracking across all digital platforms and make high-level strategy decisions based on data.
  • Create strong, positive relationships with key stakeholders.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, public relations, journalism, or related discipline and 4 years professional experience in digital marketing, social media, digital strategy, or similar role. At least one year of experience is to include social media and community management. Experience should also include:
  • Skills in Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, CSS, and related codebases
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Excel and PowerPoint
  • Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager and gathering analytics from multiple channels to compile reporting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant work experience for a mid-sized to large brand, especially in gaming or entertainment.
  • Past experience supervising at least one employee.
  • Intermediate to advanced Adobe Creative Suite, HTML and CSS skills.
  • Strong understanding of foundational SEO best practices and the ability to quickly learn new changes to search algorithms as they are released.
  • Past experience leading a web/digital team.
  • Past experience working on or overseeing digital products (websites, apps, etc.).
